Primary School’s Sports Funding
The Government is providing significant funding for academic years 2017/18 and 2018/19 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school Head teachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children; develop or add to the PE and sport activities that the school already offers; build capacity and capability within the school to ensure that improvements made now will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.
OFSTED will play a significant role in ensuring that schools target funding in area which will lead to clear outcomes in raising standards and opportunities in PE and school sport for all children throughout the Primary Phase. St Mary’s will receive £16,000 and an additional payment of £10 per pupil, creating a total of £19, 520 for 2017/18.
Purpose of Funding
Schools will have to spend the funding on improving their provision of PE and school sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
